The
Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola
while speaking to State house correspondents after the Federal Executive
Council meeting at the state house Abuja, yesterday, said that the Federal
government will not embark on the award and construction of any new road
project until existing road projects from the last administration have
all been completed.
Fashola said the last administration awarded 206 road contracts worth about N2 trillion which have not been paid for.
He emphasised that roads that are of great economic value such as the Lagos-Ibadan expressway where important items such as Fuel or Food are to be transported to all parts of the country, these are topmost importance to the government.

“What we have done was first to
say that we would not award any new road contract. We would deal with the over
206 roads that have been awarded but not funded for over three years.”
