NANS appeals to Militants in the region to cease fire

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to youths in the Niger Delta region to lay down their arms in the interest of our beloved country Nigeria.

The President of the association, Comr. Aruna Kadiri, who made the appeal in a statement in Lafia, Nasarawa State on Monday, said the youths' "bombing of oil and gas pipelines had created economic setback and environmental degradation".

“We are calling on armed youths in the region to lay down their arms trusting that the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari will attend to the needs of the Niger Delta People,” Comr. Kadiri said.

He further advised the youths to resist the temptation of being used by self-seeking persons to destroy their future.

He commended the recent Niger Delta Peace and Development Initiative organised by stakeholders from the region, including two former governors from the area, namely, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and Chief Victor Attah.

Comr. Kadiri urged people from the region to support and contribute to the success of the initiative.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) recalls that some aggrieved youths in the country under the aegis of Niger Delta Avengers have continued to launch attacks on oil facilities, such attacks have made negative impacts on the national economy of the country.

He reiterated the association’s readiness to partner with the Federal Government and other concerned organisations to help restore lasting peace to the Niger Delta and other troubled parts of the country.
