Senate Confirms NDDC Board



The Senate has confirmed the nominations for appointment of 15 out of the 19 Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Board nominees, three were rejected and one did not appear before the Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs for the Screening exercise.
The Committee on Niger Delta Affairs led by its Chairman, Sen. Peter Nwaoboshi presented the report of the screening exercise before the Chamber for consideration.

Accordingly, the Red Chamber resolved into the Committee of the Whole where it considered, approved and confirmed the nomination of the following persons as Chairman, Managing Director, Executive Directors and members of the NDDC Board Sen. Victor Ndoma Egba – Chairman (Cross Rivers), Nsima Udo Ekere – Managing Director (Akwa Ibom), Engr. Adjogbe Ajenakevwe Samuel – Executive Director, Project (Delta State), Mene Lenyie Derek – Executive Director, Finance & Administration (Rivers State), Frank Samuel George – Member (Akwa Ibom), Prof. Brambaifa Nelson – Member (Bayelsa), Sylvester Effefiom Nsa – Member (Cross River), Dr. Ogaga Ifowodo – Member (Delta State), Hon. Uwuilekhue Saturday – Member (Edo), Harry Iboroma Dabibi – Member (Rivers State), Air Commodore Bernard Banfa – Member (North Central Zone), Yahaya Mohammed Member (North East Zone), Mustapha Dankadai Member (North West), Dr. Mahmud Isa Dutse – Member (Federal Ministry of Finance), Mr. Abdul-Kazeem Kasimu Bayero – Member (Federal Ministry of Environment).


Also, three of the nominees were rejected and denied confirmation, they include Hon. Donatus Enyinnah – Member (Abia State), Olatokunbo Ayotunde Ajasin – Member (Ondo State) and Mr. Igo Weli – Member (Delta State). While Sen. Osita Izunzso Beneventure – Member (Imo State) did not appear before the Committee for the screening exercise.
Meanwhile, the Upper Legislative Chamber has deliberated upon and passed three Motions. One of them stemmed from Matters of Urgent National Interest moved by Sen. Joshua Lidani (Gombe South) on the recent arrest of Members of the Bench on alleged judicial corrupt practices by the Department of State Security (DSS).
The Senate has mandated the Committee on Niger Delta Affairs to review the representation of Federal Ministries of Finance and Environment in the NDDC Board through the amendment of the NDDC Act.
